Another song to the same tune. White uses the force of the opposition to help his Pawn reach the queening square.

  1. Kd5   Kd7
  2. Kc5

If Black could meet this by …, Kc7, he would have the opposition. This being impossible, he sets a little trap.

  1. ...    Kd8

He hopes White will play the obvious 3 Kc6 (moving closer to the Pawn) whereupon 3 …, Kc8 4. b7+, Kb8 5. Kb6 draws.

  1. Kd6!

This gives White the opposition and assures the win, since the Pawn will now reach the seventh rank without checking.

  1. ...      Kc8
  2. Kc6   Kb8
  3. b7     Ka7
  4. Kc7

White wins, as the Pawn will queen.
